"Not a Single Dull Moment": Readers' Favorite Reviews Surviving Summer Camp

As an author, there is nothing quite like hearing that a story you poured your heart into resonated with a reader. That’s why I'm thrilled to share that Surviving Summer Camp has just received a 5-Star Review from Readers' Favorite! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Reviewer Pikasho Deka beautifully captured exactly what I hoped to achieve with this book: a fast-paced, high-stakes adventure featuring characters that kids can actually see themselves in.

Here is a quick look at what they had to say:

"The pacing is great, and there is not a single dull moment in the entire book... It’s a coming-of-age tale with a lot of heart, charm, and drama. Young readers will have a blast with this!" — Pikasho Deka, Readers' Favorite

What is Surviving Summer Camp About?

The story follows twelve-year-old Edward "Eddy" Martin. Eddy is a total introvert who would much rather spend his summer break mastering video games than dealing with the great outdoors. But after a neighborhood mishap, he finds himself shipped off to Sunnyside Summer Camp with his two brothers.

To make matters worse, his teenage neighbor Zack—who holds a major grudge—is the head counselor. When an overnight hike goes sideways, Eddy has to step up, find his inner courage, and figure out how to save his brothers from a terrible fate in the wilderness.

Why Kids (and Reluctant Readers) Connect with Eddy

One of my favorite parts of the review was the nod to Eddy's character arc. The reviewer noted:

"The best thing about Paul Breau's writing is that he makes his characters seem like actual, real-life people. Eddy, the main protagonist, is your typical introverted middle-grader who would rather spend his time playing video games than roaming outside..."

If you have a middle-grader at home who prefers a controller to a hiking backpack, they will find a kindred spirit in Eddy. Seeing an introverted kid use his wits to navigate a real-world survival situation is exactly the kind of validation I think today's readers love to see.

A Huge Thank You!

In addition to the very kind review, Surviving Summer Camp scored perfect 5/5 ratings in Plot, Development, Formatting, and Appearance!

A huge thank you to Readers' Favorite and Pikasho Deka for taking the time to read and review. And an even bigger thank you to all the parents, educators, and young adventurers who have supported Eddy's journey so far.
