I have some exciting news to share: Surviving Summer Camp has officially been named a finalist for the Whistler Independent Book Awards!

To say I'm honored would be an understatement. Produced in partnership with the Whistler Writers Festival (https://whistlerwritersfestival.com) and sponsored by the Canadian Authors Association, the Whistler Independent Book Awards (https://independentbookawards.ca) are the only awards program in Canada specifically established to recognize excellence in Canadian self-published writing.
Why This Recognition Means So Much
Independent publishing is a journey filled with long nights, emails with my editor, and countless hours trying to get the book formatting just right. Being recognized by a prestigious body like the WIBAs validates every ounce of work poured into bringing Surviving Summer Camp to life.
The evaluation process for these awards is rigorous, entries are vetted by the Canadian Writers’ Union, with finalists evaluated by distinguished Canadian authors and industry professionals. Standing among such talented indie authors across the country is a huge milestone.
What's Next?
The final award winners will be announced during the annual Whistler Writers Festival (https://whistlerwritersfestival.com), a multi-day celebration of literature, workshops, and author panels set in the scenic mountains of Whistler, BC. I'll be there if you want to say hello. I'll be part of the Children's Book Panel and I'll also be doing a reading from the book. You can check out the schedule once it's finalized.
Whether you've been following the journey of Surviving Summer Camp from day one or you've just recently picked up a copy, thank you. This recognition belongs just as much to the readers who championed the story, left reviews, and shared it with friends.
Stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to the festival! In the meantime, you can check out the full list of nominees and learn more about the awards over at the official Whistler Independent Book Awards site (https://independentbookawards.ca).
And, if you haven't read Surviving Summer Camp yet? Go grab your copy today, or leave a review to help us celebrate this nomination!
